Cedar Valley United Way Begins Funding Application Process

WATERLOO, IA – Applications for 2014-16 Cedar Valley United Way funding grants are now available at www.cedarvalleyunitedway.org/GrantApplication. To be considered, programs must target one of three funding areas, education, income or health, to advance the common good of the Cedar Valley.

In addition to funding for these three focus areas, a special allocation of funds reserved for breaking the cycle of systemic poverty through research and community action will be available. These new funds are a response to findings of the organization’s 2013 community needs assessment.

“We recognize that to break the cycle of poverty, we must also support programming that will intentionally target more than one of our traditional focus areas as we know these areas are interconnected,” said Sheila Baird, Cedar Valley United Way president.

These new funds will be classified as Community Assessment Response Funds and will be available outside of the traditional United Way funding cycle. These funds may be applied for randomly, as opportunity arises, to address systemic poverty through per-need initiatives and/or research. Eligibility for these funds is dependent on the existence of collaborative partnerships, as well as the program/project having the ability to impact multiple focus areas that contribute to systemic poverty. The application for Community Assessment Response will be available on cedarvalleyunitedway.org at a later date.

Any program or collaborating programs seeking to partner with Cedar Valley United Way for funding must have a single sponsoring 501c3 as their fiscal agent and take place within a 30-mile radius of Waterloo/Cedar Falls.

Applications for the education, income and health grants are due Friday, February 14, 2014 at 2 p.m. to Debbie Roth, senior director of community resources at Cedar Valley United Way. Grant recipients will be notified in May 2014. For more information, contact Roth at debbie.roth@cvuw.org.
