What exactly is it?
Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are traumatic events that can dramatically upset a child's sense of safety and well-being. The ACEs Coalition is working with community, regional and national partners across the areas of Education. Income and Health to implement ACE informed strategies.
The ultimate goal of the ACEs Project is to improve the health and well-being of all by empowering communities, organizations and people to take informed actions to prevent and mitigate the lifelong effects of childhood adversity.
- 56% of Iowa adults report experiencing having at least one ACE.
- Here in Black Hawk County, 12.9% of adults report four or more ACEs
