Rebecca's Story

Unable to afford health insurance, Rebecca had not seen a healthcare provider in years. She had to dismiss her pre-diabetic health problems that emerged because she did not have health insurance to cover medical appointments. So, when Rebecca visited Allen’s ACE-SAP Free Clinic one day feeling extremely fatigued and concerned about her blood sugar, doctors officially diagnosed her with diabetes.

With a high A1C, Rebecca was in need of a treatment plan that would help her A1C return to normal. Thankfully, the clinic educated Rebecca about implementing a diet and how to regularly check her blood sugar. And, in addition to receiving the proper medication for her diabetes, Rebecca finally received medical insurance several months later.

Rebecca also decided to join Allen’s New Leaf program, which offers a variety of diet and weight loss strategies. Rebecca even continues to follow up with the clinic because she feels more encouraged to stick to her diet through the frequent help and guidance of clinic staff.  She has expressed how the sincere care and assistance she has received at the clinic has made an incredible difference in her life, especially her health.

Cedar Valley United Way is proud to support programs like the Allen College ACE-SAP Free Clinic that help people like Rebecca. Together, we fight for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in our community. To live better, we must Live United.
