United Way Women's Group Offers Bridges Out of Poverty Workshop

WATERLOO, IA —Join Cedar Valley United Way’s Women’s Philanthropy Connection Wednesday, October 20 for Bridges Out of Poverty, a workshop exploring strategies for professionals and communities. The event will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Tama Hall on the Hawkeye Community College campus, Waterloo.

Bridges Out of Poverty is a book and approach that helps employers, community organizations, social-service agencies and individuals address poverty in a comprehensive way. Topics for the day include increasing awareness of the differences in economic cultures and how those differences affect opportunities for success. This seminar is designed for audiences of concerned individuals, employers, community organizations, law enforcement, counselors, health care and social service providers.

Jodi Pfarr of Minneapolis, MN, executive director of Emma Norton Services which provides housing to single women with low incomes, will be the speaker for the day. Prior to working with Emma Norton Services, Pfarr worked for Catholic Charities managing low-income housing for those coming out of shelter or off the street and with the St. Paul Police Department as a certified critical debriefer.

The Bridges Out of Poverty workshop is open to the public. Fees for the day include lunch and a book and are $25 for Women’s Philanthropy Connection members, $50 for non-profit employees and $75 for all other community members. Register at www.cedarvalleyunitedway.org or by calling 319.235.6211.
