Cedar Valley United Way to Hold 2009 Campaign Kick-Off Event

WATERLOO, IA – The community is invited to attend the Rally for the Valley, Cedar Valley United Way’s annual campaign kick-off. The luncheon event will be held Wednesday, September 2 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the 5 Sullivan Brothers Convention Center, Waterloo.

Gary Kroeger from the Mudd Group will serve as emcee for the event, officially kicking off the 2009 Cedar Valley United Way campaign. Speakers for the luncheon include Cedar Valley United Way Board Chair Ken Nelson and 2009 Campaign Chairs Dave Rodger and Jim Mudd, Sr.

Community members will have the opportunity to learn more about the need here in the Cedar Valley as well help raise money to kick start the campaign.

During the event, guests will have the chance to purchase balloons for $10.  At the end of the event, balloons will be popped to reveal prizes inside including tickets to the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, Grout Museum District, Iowa Speedway, Phelps Youth Pavilion, UNI Football, Waterloo Black Hawks, Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony and Waterloo Community Playhouse; items from Jennifer’s, KWWL, L & R Jewelers, ME&V, Scheels, Together for Youth, Tupperware—Bridget Bryson, University Book & Supply and UPS; and gift certificates to Barmuda, Basket of Daisies, Bill Colwell Ford, Bob Brown Car Detailing, Carol Hansen Photography, Cedar Falls Community Theatre, Comfort Suites, Cooper Image Design, Design Studio, Elements Therapeutic Massage, Great Clips, Hardees, Homestead House, Jiva Salon & Spa, Kate's on Main, McDonald's, Scheels, Tan Down Under, The Black Hawk Hotel and The Pump Haus. All money raised during the Rally for the Valley will go toward the Cedar Valley United Way campaign. For the 2009-10 year, Cedar Valley United Way provided over $2 million in funding to programs throughout the Cedar Valley that focus on helping children and youth succeed, supporting the elderly and disabled, and poverty reduction.
