Fun Campaign Ideas

Use this list to help organize your Cedar Valley United Way campaign.

Choosing a theme

Choosing a creative theme for your Cedar Valley United Way campaign helps create interest and enthusiasm and it also helps encourage a successful campaign. Use our suggestions below or feel free to come up with ideas of your own that fit your company’s personality.

  • Halloween – Have a Halloween party, create a haunted house, have a pumpkin carving contest or guess the weight of a pumpkin.
  • Fall Harvest – Most campaigns kick off in September or October. Why not have an pie bake-off or hold a harvest lunch as your kick-off event?
  • Hawaiian – Have employees wear Hawaiian print shirts, serve ham and pineapple and dance the limbo for dollars.
  • 50s-60s-70s – Wear decade attire, have a sock-hop, disco or twist contest.
  • Wild West – Dress in cowboy hats and bandannas, hold a chili contest or serve up some barbecue for the kick-off event.

Special Events

  • Hold an Executive Car Wash – Employees pay to have management wash their cars with the proceeds going to the Cedar Valley United Way.
  • Employees’ Favorite Recipes – Compile them in a book or folder and sell them during your campaign. Hold a bake sale with samples of the recipes.
  • Hold an Auction – Have employees bring in a boxed lunch, baked goods or other items that can be auctioned off at a special event.
  • Office Bowling – Set ten empty pop bottles up in the hallway of your office. Employees can pay per throw or sign up a team for a tournament throughout the work week.
  • Spelling Bee – Enter a lunch hour spelling bee for the chance to win prizes and bragging rights!
  • Paper Airplane Contest – Judge how far each employee can soar their airplane. Additional donations go toward voting for the best constructed model.
  • Putt-putt – Pay per putt and earn points throughout the week. Most made shots at the end of the week wins.
  • Office-Wide Scavenger Hunt – Support the cause and participate in a day-long hunt around your office.
  • Ugliest Accessory Contest – Wear your ugliest ties, hats, or jewelry to work for a day while your coworkers decide who wears it worst.
  • Cook-Off – Pay to taste-test and vote for the best apple pie or spiciest chili.
  • Cubicle Decorating Contest – Show off your work space to your fellow employees.
  • Employee Funniest Videos – Charge admission to a showing of home videos from the staff. The video with the most laughs wins the prize!
  • Kiss a Pig – Staff members collect one-dollar votes all day; the supervisor, manager, or company coordinator with the fewest dollars raised has to kiss a pig.
  • Match the Baby with the Face – Ask employees to bring photos of themselves as babies. Other employees buy ballots listing the photos by number and guess which baby is who. A prize goes to the employee who correctly identifies the most babies.
  • Tricycle Races – Before the race, employees pay to have sandbags or rolled pennies tied to the opposing department managers’ trikes. Hold the race in the cafeteria or company parking lot.
  • Team Sports – Organize tournaments with any of your favorite sports – ping-pong, workplace Olympics, tennis, softball, etc.
  • Pledge Card Raffle – Hold a drawing every month for all who have turned in their pledge cards.
