Brain Gain Sign Language Program

The Brain Gain Sign Language Program at the Boys & Girls Club has been very successful this past semester.  Every day the Brain Gain Program does sign language with a different age group. Each age group gets sign language lessons once a week. They learn the alphabet, symbols for family, and symbols for friendship. The older club members, 10-12 years old, sometimes do educational activities that are based around healthy relationships with peers. This program has been successful because the club members have never been introduced to sign language before. It gives our members a chance to be exposed to a whole new culture that they might not receive if they weren't members of the Boys & Girls Club. All of the age groups are learning from this program, as each group was able to spell the Boys & Girls Club director’s name in sign language when they were asked to do so. They are learning something new that will benefit them in the future and make them more productive and responsible citizens.
